The upcoming release of the Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced for Nintendo Switch 2 will introduce a new story mode called "Azure Striker Gunvolt GX," along with improved graphics and gameplay mechanics. This announcement came during the Bit Summit event, marking a significant update for fans of the series.
The enhanced trilogy features updated versions of the original Azure Striker Gunvolt, its sequel, and the third installment, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3. Each game will see improved framerates and resolutions optimized for the Switch 2's capabilities. The new story mode lets players control a duo of protagonists, Gunvolt and Copen, who are equipped with new weapons and abilities that promote dynamic gameplay. A new "Inspiration" system will reward players for effectively switching between characters in combat, adding a strategic layer to the experience.
For those who already own the original trilogy on Nintendo Switch, a paid upgrade pack will be available, allowing existing players to experience the new features without needing to repurchase the entire collection. Inti Creates is also considering releasing the new story mode as downloadable content (DLC) for other platforms, expanding its reach beyond the Nintendo ecosystem.
The Azure Striker Gunvolt series first launched in North America in August 2014 on the Nintendo 3DS and has since evolved through several iterations, including its move to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 in July 2025. Players have enjoyed its unique blend of platforming and action, featuring an engaging narrative and a distinct visual style.
The trilogy collection includes innovative elements like "Live Novel" dialogues that unfold during missions, enhancing storytelling without disrupting gameplay. It boasts a soundtrack of 37 tracks performed by the "Muses," providing a rich audio experience, although the first two games will feature only Japanese voiceovers.
As the franchise continues to grow, the enhanced trilogy on the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to attract both long-time fans and new players. A demo of the new story mode is currently available at the Bit Summit event, offering attendees a first look at the gameplay changes and enhancements.
With the gaming market continually evolving, Inti Creates aims to establish its presence by tapping into the nostalgia of existing fans while also reaching new audiences through improved features and accessibility. The Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy Enhanced is set to release later this year, signaling a new chapter in this beloved franchise.
